Beautify Earth’s mission is to transform the world’s unkept and bland walls into an opportunity for artists and “paint the world in color”. Conceived and originally funded by Santa Monica resident and Executive Director Evan Meyer, Beautify Earth started on Lincoln Boulevard in Santa Monica in an effort to transform one local street in the neighborhood through art. “Santa Monica has led by example, in proving that investing in murals has countless benefits and massive ROI for businesses, tourism and the city”, said Meyer. “Beautify Earth is honored to receive this award and hold hands in its global mission with the City of Santa Monica. We hope to serve as an example and resource for other communities to follow suit.”
“Beautify Earth is such a wonderful representation of the creative spirit and innovative thinking that is alive and well in Santa Monica”, said Misti Kerns, President/CEO of Santa Monica Travel & Tourism, who nominated Beautify Earth for the award. “Their work throughout our community has helped establish the distinct character of each of Santa Monica’s eight diverse neighborhoods”.
“Congratulations to Beautify Earth for being recognized with this honor. Thank you for turning the boring into the beautiful, and building a strong community movement along the way,” said Mayor Ted Winterer. “Beautify Earth has beautified Santa Monica’s bleakest blank walls with startling creativity that delights the eye, warms the heart and captures the imagination,” said Santa Monica City Manager Rick Cole. “They are making this a better world one gorgeous mural at a time.
